In August 2009, I hit “publish” on my very first blog post because I needed to talk about my postpartum depression. I had no idea there was such a vast and wonderful community of moms on the internet crusading to help other moms. I joined their ranks quickly and wrote, wrote, wrote.
When I decided to stop blogging three years later, I pulled my site (“pretty swell”) off the internet. Yanked it right down. It was a knee-jerk reaction to my emotions at the time, and I sure do wish I’d let it just hang out there for a while until I figured things out.
Slowly, the emails and Facebook messages started coming. They’d often start with, “I have a friend who thinks she might have postpartum depression …” They’d ask for links to my PPD posts, and I felt horrible that I couldn’t send them. So I’d copy and paste my words and email them far and wide (always starting with a link to Postpartum Progress).
Then I moved my old (self-hosted) site back to its original (wordpress.com) home to avoid paying hosting fees, and even though many of the photos didn’t survive, the words did.
So here we are.
These are my favorite PPD posts, starting from when Lily was 18 months old through Sophie’s birth and beyond. I hope they help someone, somewhere. You just never know.
